My first consideration when I decided to use Agoda was whether it is a legitimate company. Since Priceline acquired Agoda back and Priceline is relatively well-known, Agoda is legitimate by all accounts. Last time I shared my own experience with Agoda. This time, I recently booked a stay at a hotel and knew that many of the area hotels were sold out or listed with higher rates due to some events happening in the area. By the time our flight arrived and we got to the hotel, it was close to midnight.
A manager on duty helped us with our check-in. Two separate conversations came up. As the manager helped process our check-in, a guy walked up to the check-in line and instead of waiting to be helped, he directly addressed the manager and yelled out to ask if there are any more rooms.
The manager politely responded that they are sold out, and he left immediately. The second conversation involved two men dressed smartly in business suits who were being helped by the check-in staff at the counter next to ours. While the manager was helping us, the staff came over to the manager for some help. It went something like this:. What should I do? I knew the rate for that particular night was up through the roof for all area hotels. If those guests had thought they might save money using Agoda, I suspect it ended up being a very expensive lesson learned.
The staff went back to explain to the party and they were still at the check-in desk when we left with our room keys. I suspect that they did exactly what happened to me: They booked through Agoda because it was showing availability even though it was sold out everywhere else. I use Agoda on occasion for independent hotel vacation stays. What I tend to do is make some small special request of the hotel through direct communication cross referenced reservations, room with balcony, or some such.
This requires a response from the hotel, which shows that they have the reservation. Resulting in the loss of a sizable amout of money. I will never use them again. Please warn others not to fall for this scam. I have had plenty of bookings with them and never had any issues.

When I wanted to pay for the hotel I had found I got a message saying the time had run out instead of a confirmation of the booking. So I had to make a new booking and this time I received a confirmation that the payment had gone through.
Later I noticed I had received two emails with a confirmation for a booking of the hotel. The hotels will not make the reservation and agoda will completely fail to help you, and in fact will try to do things which are entirely deceiving including trying to book you into a lower ranked hotel. Has happened multiple times, would probably happen again….
But… fool me once et al… Except I did get fooled multiple times! Shame on me! I used Agoda several times at Suvarnabhumi, Bangkok and was satisfied. They are scammers! I booked a hotel for a friend, I was charged, my friend was confirmed and when he arrived at the hotel the reservation was cancelled. From the hotel it was not possible to contact Agoda to complain so I tried. After waiting 30 minutes on the phone, we were answered by an advisor who could not solve the problem. If we take into account that this company does not make refunds on cancellations, this was a SCAM! I booked through Agoda a 15 night All Inclusive package at a high end resort in Maldives.

Not only do they deploy misleading and dishonest pricing strategy showing pricing without taxes and fees and having different pricings on different platforms ie app vs desktop. Their customer service is disturbingly bad! The customer service rep who served me named Ida was either completely dishonest or was trying to play the ignorance card on purpose.
She had absolutely NO idea what customers service means and is an absolute disgrace to the hospitality business and booking platforms everywhere. Terrible experience with Agoda. Booked a 1night staycation with Park hotel Singapore with SG Secure badge and was shocked to realize that the hotel was reserved for quarantined personals from Covid After getting turned down at the doorstep, Agoda took a long time answering our calls and finally refunded our paid amount.
The park hotel staffs were horribly unhelpful as well, immediately shirked responsibility to Agoda instead of offering us alternatives. Will never trust Agoda again. When arrived at hotel my booking was nowhere to be found. I had to spend almost an hour trying to find out what happened and why they charged me and send me confirmation email however obviously nobody contacted reservations of the hotel and didn't book anything under my name. After being on a hold for a total of 30 mins situation was not resolved and only what I got is a promised refund.
However hotel was already overbooked so I had look for the nearest hotel and book something else in rush, which turn out to be more expansive, so I lost my money, my time and the mood was ruined overall. I'm filing a class action suit! I have used third party sites before and have never been burned until now. Before booking thru them I read all the disclaimers. Next to the rate it said "free cancellation". Once I input my credit card my confirmation said "non refundable". Customer service disconnected me 4x and my emails were returned with an automated reply that I was not writing from the email address I used to book not accurate.
This is site is a scam and should be investigated. Agoda would not want to refund the money in credit card and Hotel allows the cancellation but Agoda gave expiry within the same month of the hotel booking. Unable to extend the expiry of the booking.

I booked a flight with them and ended up missing the flight, because they put in dummy details in the system hence the airline had no way of contacting me, agoda did not contact me as well. Hence I did not know about the flight change. Now the customer care says I need to wait 3 months for a reply. They advertise free cancellations and refunds and then make your reservation non refundable after you pay!

Horrible customer service. I was hung up on twice, and refused to be transferred to a supervisor. Three weeks as hotel cancelled my reservation, but still no money. Completely useless. Will never book through them again, avoid at all costs. Cancellation is a scam. I booked for the xmas and cancelled two weeks prior. No refunds. Don't waste your money on this. They just sending idiotic survey emails how they do blah blah blah. Complete crap. I booked a room with a mountain view and a jetted tub.
There was no view. The hotel allowed pets but agoda did not put a disclaimer that pets cost extra. Also, hotel claimed to serve breakfast. They had packaged muffins and apples. Hardly what I'd consider a breakfast. The booking with agoda was easy but considering all information about the hotel was not transparent, I wouldn't book with them again.

With money running out its nice to know that some crappy company kept all of it and rendered no services, this is abhorrent and they shut down the park and left the empty hotel "open" on the resort you were prohibited from entering. I got a better rate thru agoda, so did not contact the resort directly. The photos in agoda and resort web truly reflect the rooms and facility. Janice depends on the hotel most want to use the credit card given for security due to fraud so check with the hotel first befor your husband becomes distraught. It was my understanding that you receive points according to the amount of money you spend on reservations, not on writing reviews.
Hi Marlon, You have to register to Agoda affiliation program, you will see all the history about your Agoda purchase and points. I use Agda very often, and I have already enjoyed a couple of weekends for free redeeming my points. Of course when booking cheap hotels you get a few points only, so it will take time till you can get full benefits from it. It's a great way to keep customers with them, they are very smart. I usually use my mobile phone to show the voucher, bbut most times hotels are not even bothered to see it as they have your name on file.
