Who is elronds father

Elrond and Gil-galad sensed that he was not what he seemed, and denied him. He went to the realm of Eregion, instead, where he advised the king Celebrimbor grandson of Feanor in the creation of Rings of Power.

The mightiest of the three, Vilya, was given to Gil Galad. However, Elrond and Gil Galad's suspicions were proven correct when Annatar was revealed as Sauron, servant of Morgoth. Elrond led Elves from Lindon in battle to defend Eregion. With them, and other Elves who fled the destruction of the capital Ost-in-Edhil, he established Imladris as a haven in SA Many more refugees joined Elrond's host as Sauron ravaged Eriador during the course of the war. By SA , Imladris, despite being besieged, was the only part of Eriador not under Sauron's control.

It was liberated by the forces of Gil-galad and Tar-Minastir, an heir of Elros'. After Sauron's was routed from Eriador, a Council was held which establishing Elrond as Gil-galad's vice-regent in Eriador and that Imladris should be maintained as an Elvish stronghold. He witnessed Sauron coming out to fight and the subsequent deaths of Elendil and Gil Galad. When Isildur cut the Ring off of Sauron's finger, destroying the Dark Lord's physical form, Elrond and his troops were nearly blown away by the shockwave.

After recovering, Elrond saw Isildur pick up the evil ring and took him to Mount Doom. He urged Isildur to cast the ring in the fires of the mountain.

However, Isildur was corrupted by the Ring's influence and refused. Though Elrond yelled for the young King of Gondor, he watched as Isildur walked away.

From that day, Elrond realized Sauron's influence could have ended that day if Isildur made the right choice. Elrond subsequently returned to Rivendell, which prospered the coming years with the aid of the Ring of Air, Vilya, that Elrond had received from Gil-galad. Indeed, after the Second Age ended, there were very few Noldor left in Middle-earth, and most of them resided in Rivendell anyway.

Following Isildur's death, Elrond received the shards of Narsil, which he preserved for many years. He began his long tradition of fostering the heirs of Isildur by helping to raise Isildur's son Valandil, who had been left in Rivendell during the War of the Last Alliance.

A little explanation would have been nice from the movies, but it seems like in the books, Elrond was actually faced with the same choice as Arwen back in the day. His twin brother, Elros, chose the fate of Men, whereas Elrond chose to live among the Elves. Clearly, Elrond wanted Arwen to make the same choice, rather than following his brother's path.

After learning about the sad events with his wife, Celebrian, we do know that she was confirmed to leave for Valinor. Perhaps Elrond envisioned a happy family reunion across the sea— but instead, Arwen chose to live out a mortal life alongside Aragorn.

In the beginning of The Fellowship of the Ring movie , actress Cate Blanchett narrates a brief history of Middle-Earth, and the sequence includes a brief scene involving Elrond.

After a long struggle, Sauron was eventually defeated, but there were many slain in the battle. Elrond attempted to tell Isildur to destroy the One Ring, but he quickly fell under the power of Sauron. Despite his efforts to dissuade him, Isildur refused to destroy the ring. In turn, Elrond decided to return to Rivendell after the battle was complete. However, as a literary character, Elrond actually was first introduced during J. In the films, the character of Glorfindel was not shown, and it is Elrond's daughter, Arwen Liv Tyler , who rescues Frodo.

At the Council, the nine members of the Fellowship of the Ring were determined, and together, it was decided that the One Ring should be destroyed. Although in the films, Elrond's sons Elladan and Elrohir were not mentioned, they did play a key role in the novels.

For instance, Elrond sends both of his sons to ride out with the Rangers of the North to Rohan. Elrond decides to send a message with his sons, telling Aragorn to take the Paths of the Dead. In the novels, Elrond stayed in Rivendell until the One Ring was destroyed, and Sauron's forces were defeated.

Let us know in the comments! Elrond was Gil-galad 's herald during the war against Sauron. Eventually, Sauron himself was defeated by Elendil and Gil-galad , allowing Isildur to cut the One Ring from Sauron's finger and claim the Ring for himself.

The war took a toll on the forces of both Elves and Men. Upon discovering that Isildur had claimed the One Ring for himself, Elrond urged Isildur to throw the Ring into the fires of Mount Doom , but the seduction of the ring made Isildur refuse. Isildur claimed the Ring as a Weregild for his father and brother, and Elrond perhaps not fully understanding the nature of the One Ring acknowledged his claim.

Elrond then returned to Rivendell at the end of the war. Elrond in Rivendell at the time of the Quest of Erebor. In the later years, he was instrumental in harboring the heirs of Isildur while the line lasted, the most famous of these sons of men was Aragorn son of Arathorn II , whom he took in and fostered as his own after his father died in TA Elrond, foreseeing the boy's difficult future gave him the name Estel, Sindarin for hope.

Aragorn grew up in Imladris unaware of his royal lineage until Elrond told him when he had reached his manhood. He also was a member of the White Council, which was often held in Rivendell, and was a great friend of Gandalf the Grey. He helped Thorin Oakenshield 's expedition to retake the Lonely Mountain by discovering and translating the Moon Writing on Thorin's map. After Frodo 's departure from the Shire with the One Ring, Elrond sent out riders to help guide him back to Rivendell.

One of these, Glorfindel , successfully found Frodo and helped him reach Rivendell. He appeared to have selected the members of the Fellowship other than Frodo and Sam. Through his sons, Elrond advised Aragorn to take the Paths of the Dead. Elrond is a Sindarin name that means "Star-dome" or "Elf of the cave", from el "Elf" or "star", interchangeably and rond "cave, vault".

Elrond was a skillful warrior in battle and had commanded various armies of the Free Peoples well, including the Last Alliance. He was just as effective at leadership and gave much wise counsel. He had the gift of foresight through which he could view lands and events far away from Rivendell. He was also adept at healing others, though whether through medical knowledge or magic isn't known. The latter may be more probable in that Elrond managed to cure a Morgul wound, something which is almost invariably fatal due to its association with dark sorcery.
