With the Night King defeated and Tormund and the wildlings, a. Remember Craster? He was the wildling patriarch who lived north of the Wall, fathering children with his daughter-wives. And if the babies were boys, they were sacrificed to the Night King. The whereabouts of Gilly and little Sam during the episode were also not revealed.
The revelation that Jon was actually Aegon Targaryen was the secret that rocked many people this season, including Daenerys, who did not want others to learn that Jon had a stronger blood claim to the Iron Throne. Azor Ahai, who would save the world from darkness. She seemed to consider her mission complete when the Night King was defeated. Perhaps Jon was Azor Ahai all along, fulfilling the prophecy when he killed Daenerys. Melisandre also mentioned Arya would kill someone with green eyes, which many assumed would be Cersei.
Cersei, however, died with Jaime — her sometimes lover and slightly younger brother — when a passage under the Red Keep collapsed. Granted, prophecies are far from literal. Twitter: tracycbrown. Tracy Brown is a digital editor and writer working in entertainment for the Los Angeles Times.
That technically could still happen, but it seems more likely at this point that Bran or Sam will have to awkwardly share that update with Jon. His backstory from the books indicates he may have an understanding of magic, including the Children of the Forest and the White Walker threat facing Westeros. In the books, when Meera, Bran, and Jojen are traveling toward the Wall, the Reed siblings tell a story about a crannogman—the term used for the small, slender people who reside in the swamplands of the Neck—who visited the Isle of Faces some decades before the current events of the books and show.
The Isle of Faces is a mysterious but incredibly important place in Westeros. It lies at the center of a lake called the Gods Eye, just south of Harrenhal, and is where, thousands of years before the show, the Children of the Forest and the First Men forged the Pact that ended centuries of fighting between the two species.
On the island, a face was carved into every weirwood tree so that the gods could witness the Pact, and a mysterious order called the green men was formed to protect the Isle of Faces and guard the weirwoods remaining in the south. Those weirwoods still exist on the island today, as do the green men, though they are in near-isolation from the rest of Westeros, as most other weirwoods south of the North were cut down both before and after the Pact. No one knows much about the green men, as evidenced by the wild rumors about them that float around Westeros.
They are said to have dark skin and horns, though most maesters believe that they simply wear green clothes and helms with antlers. Some maesters also think that some of the Children of the Forest still live with the green men on the Isle of Faces, protected by the order. The green men and the Isle of Faces occupy a central place in ancient Westeros history, and they seem to have a strong link to magic. Yet no one knows what the green men—and the Children who may or may not accompany them—actually do.
No one, that is, except for perhaps Howland Reed. According to Meera and Jojen, Howland stayed on the Isle for an entire winter—which, remember, can last years in Westeros—before leaving to observe the now infamous Tourney at Harrenhal. As Howland arrived at the tourney fields, the slender crannogman was attacked by a group of squires. Suddenly, Lyanna Stark appeared to defend Howland, driving away the squires with a tourney sword.
Soon after the young lord of the swampland met Ned and his brother Benjen as well, and when the tourney began, a mystery knight with a laughing tree on their shield entered the jousts to challenge the three squires who attacked Howland.
When he wakes up and cries out, Meera awakens as well. The Three-Eyed Raven informs them of their situation. She briefly speaks to Hodor before realizing how close the White Walkers are.
Meera rushes to the entrance of the cave and sees the vast army of the dead approaching. On Leaf's orders, she dashes back into the cave, picks up a spear, and frantically tries to wake Bran up from his latest vision.
Meera's latest words enter Bran's thoughts, and as the wights enter the cave, she encourages him to warg into Hodor. She kills several wights and successfully shatters one White Walker with a spear of dragonglass. She carries Bran out of the cave in a cart, begging both present and past Hodor to "hold the door".
Although all the other inhabitants of the cave perish, Meera escapes the battle alive with Bran, whilst Hodor is killed by the wights. Bran remains despondent, and continues to have visions of both past, present, and future. They are eventually found by the wight horde just as Bran wakes up, and Meera apologizes for not being able to protect him due to their sheer numbers and her exhaustion.
Just before the Wights close in, however, a mysterious figure clad in a hooded black cloak arrives, killing several wights with a flaming chain.
He pulls Bran and Meera up onto his horse, and they ride away. The mysterious figure, once they have found a safe place to make a fire, reveals himself as Benjen Stark , Bran's uncle, who has previously been thought to be dead. He claims that he was attacked by White Walkers while on a ranging party, and left for dead after being stabbed through the gut, and that the magic of the Children of the Forest saved his life. Meera, Bran, and Benjen eventually arrive at the weirwood tree, not far from the Wall.
Claiming that the magic of the Children of the Forest prevents him from passing beyond the Wall, Benjen says his farewells and once again disappears into the forest, promising to continue to fight for the living.
Meera watches while Bran connects to the tree, wary of the events following the last time he warged, who sees a vision of his aunt Lyanna 's death, and the birth of Jon at the Tower of Joy. Meera introduces herself as the daughter of Howland Reed and Bran as well, though Tollett demands some sort of proof that the two of them are indeed who they say they are.
Bran delivers an ominous warning regarding the arrival of winter and the white walkers, and Eddison allows them to pass through the wall. Together with Bran, Meera arrives at Winterfell where she witnesses Bran reuniting with his sister, Sansa. When all Bran has to say is "thank you", Meera angrily says that Bran is only alive due to the sacrifices made by her brother, Summer and Hodor.
Meera, with tears in her eyes, agrees, saying that the real Bran died in the cave of the Three-Eyed Raven. She then leaves Winterfell and returns to her home. Sixteen-year-old Meera is a noted hunter and trapper. In A Clash of Kings , Meera and her brother arrive at Winterfell to renew the crannogmen's vows of fealty to the Starks. Meera reminds Bran of Arya: she isn't scared to get dirty, and she can run and fight and throw as good as a boy. Meera and Jojen are present as guests at Winterfell when it is taken by Theon.
Theon looks at her once or twice and wonders if she is still a maiden, but other than that pays no attention to her and Jojen. When the Stark boys escape with their wolves, Hodor , and Osha , the Reeds join them. Meera is described as near Robb's age, slim as a boy, with long brown hair knotted behind her head and only the barest suggestion of breasts. Peterson - linguist. Patel - director.
