How is doostang

I also sent along an email to the help doostang. Hi Kyle and Marie, Thank you both for sharing your experience. Within a day of this post, someone from Doostang had the time to check my LinkedIn profile, but not to correspond with me. Thanks for the heads up on this! I just got invited to participate from a high level contact and found your blog on Google. I get tired of getting these types of requests, particularly when they are so self serving.

After reading your post, I will not be joining Doostang what a dumb name. Thanks so much for the info, I got one of these invites and was considering putting a lot of effort into it. I received an invitation from someone I do not know to join and decided to google Doostang as I was intriqued by the reference to Harvard, Stanford, MIT.

They are pathetic and real bunch of losers. It happened to me also. Doostang had its days before. Now its just for a bunch of wannabes and no useful talks happening there.

It seems that they are trying to work a specific niche. Their web site and their Facebook page say:. Hi Ruth! Thank you for this apt description. Wonder what that means? THis is exactly what happend to me on Doostang! Never got an answer back, to why I was kicked off or let go, whatever. Liz Contact me please. The email address you sign up with is displayed on your profile and there is no option in the privacy settings to hide it.

As I always do, I set up a unique email address to sign up for Doostang as explained on BustSpammers. Hi Steven! Thanks for the information. Is there any way for you, a newby to their group to start your own group on the site? If the tools are useful, it might be worth exploring , otherwise no way. LinkedIn is good, but is lacking in some tools to — like a way to invite contacts to a group event — Linked in members are resorting to using evites and the like to set up a sponsored regional group meeting.

A client of mine just received an e-mail to join yesterday, and asked me to look into it. I will be wary in approaching it. Thanks especially to the note about SPAM, as he already gets too much. Yesterday…for what seemed like endless tedious hours…I attempted to post about 15 jobs and…the horror began.

Sidenote: about 25 of my friends or as Doostang refers to them…suckers had joined. Me — After spending a couple of hours posting jobs on Doostang where every now and then the site would just decide to close half the jobs I just added so I would have to reopen each individually I went to my profile and then tried to get back to the jobs I had posted. Doostang — I have looked into this and it seems your account was blocked due to spam issues.

Sometimes, when a user posts a very high number of jobs that are not relevant to our core demographic, the system tags the postings as spam and temporarily blocks the user.

Me — Thanks for your prompt response and for ensuring that I had access to my account. I do see that all of the jobs I posted are now inactive.

As to the categories I assume you are referring to the drop down list of Industries. I would really like to be able to post jobs on Doostang. And while that is sadly true it is not due to lack of trying on our part. Anything beyond that likely slipped by, as we are a very small team and do not necessarily see every posting that goes up on the site.

As for the other positions, you are welcome to keep them up. We are very sensitive towards maintaining a job board that is reflective of our users interests.

The site is set up in such a way that whatever is posted most recently will appear at the top of the job board; going forward, I would therefore ask that you post your positions over a longer period of time one position per day for 10 days, for example. Me — Thanks for getting on the duplicate postings issue. I consider myself a reasonably savvy user of both job boards and social networks and this drove me to the brink…not that I had that far to go by this time in the week.

Employers appreciate straight foward, easy to use systems and sites that clearly articulate their agendas. Fortunately, I used one of my secondary email addresses for it… but still….

Hi GeekMommy! I hope folks who have the same experience post about it too. At this time, certain policy matters are not stated as transparently as they should be, and currently, the website is not segmented in a way that encourages high volumes of postings over a short period of time. Not quite sure how a new job filter is going to help their elitist attitude or lack of response to the individual member.

Thank you all so much for the info. I received the invitation this morning to join. And that is the end of that. I was just getting ready to e-mail someone to ask them to invite me to join Doostang. Thanks for writing this. Paraphrasing, I would never want to be a member of a club that would have me as a member. Why in the world would anyone need to join Doostang with so many other professional networking resources available?

Have had a long maddening auto exchange with changing my pw. Just tried again — interestingly enough my email is still there and is still active! Will keep posted if I hear any responses. I basically demanded to be removed from their database. I also emailed Wired editors urging them to write about Doostang. Liz, thank you for this blog post, and providing a forum to capture complaints.

Nothing from either of them, btw. You go!! Feel free to email me lizsun2 gmail. Sad really. Thanks so much for this! Thanks for saving me the time and trouble!!! If you do not quality, then most of the job postings probably are not for you anyways.

You know, like Facebook did back in the day? It seems that now they are trying to charge job seekers to view some listings. Reprehensible douchebaggery. No one else does it. Liz, let me first say that obviously that was a fake email address. Why would I want to display my real contact information to some strangers over the internet? No sense of humor? Your last comment surprises me… but perhaps it goes to show why you may not be a candidate for the most selective jobs.

Top candidates will proactively seek out the top jobs and will maximize their chances by going through multiple channels. The reasons being: 1. You could have been some average accountant there? Everyone has a Masters degree these days. Where did you obtain it and what field is it in?

I agree this may backlash on them but ultimately, it is a business looking to generate profits. Good jobs are tough to come under current economic stress, so why not charge a premium? This is capitalism. Mike: Just go back to your cubicle at Douchestang. FAIL, I sez, what a bunch of cockroaches. Mike, interesting that my name dropping rubbed you the wrong way — maybe you can understand that when you name drop it can rub people the wrong way too.

And you did not answer my question: would it not make sense for D to simply indicate which credentials are required to join? And I have another question for your — how does it feel to see your fellow human beings in such a negative light? Every word you wrote here is steeped with an ill-disguised attempt of putting your audience down.

In my experience, only those who are extremely insecure in their abilities do that. I am with Mike on this one. In this economy. Which department are you in? This post resulted from bad customer service and misuse of my network.

Guess what, lots of folks on LinkedIn are from the big three too. And from many other excellent schools and companies. Natalie K: Please ask your boss at Douchestang to stop ordering you to post here. GS recruits on campus for its analyst and associate classes, and like most other banks, uses headhunters for lateral hires.

Since they have fired several thousand people over the last few months, I find it hard to believe that you would be a lateral hire. Please read up on how this whole recruiting thing works before spreading lies on the 1 Google result for doostang. Top school networking website, what BS. People from top schools network through their own alumni associations, which have their own sites.

And how useful top schools are is debatable. Harvard grad here! Do yourself a favor and ignore the site. I am at one of their targeted schools and would like to remark that this business deserves to fail. Got an invite from an acquaintance, and found your very helpful post, which told me all I needed to know! I just deleted my account.

Then I googled doostang to see what others thought and found this thread. I had never heard of doostang. So…I googled. Your Blog came up second. Not a good sign. I am going to delete the invitation without accepting. Thanks for saving me the hassle. To make matters worst, every single job on their website is now premium.

So you cannot browse any jobs without first upgrading out membership which means shelling out 40 bucks per month. It really is a trap and sucks big time!!!! My school Wharton just followed a lot of the top bschools to PAY to bring Doostang to all of its students. I had heard of it but did not know much about the service so I Googled it and saw this blog. I did not want to sign-up at first but I my roommate made me and I am glad I did. Take my word, I go to a top MBA program and went to Harvard for college and the jobs on Doostang are far superior in both quality and volume to either school.

Doostang is great IF you are in their target market. If you are an elite graduate, do not get left behind. Thanks for the discussion here.. I just got an invite from an unknown person with an email id noreply doostang.

Linkedin , xing , etc are good enough! Its been down for 30 mins already — what a bummer! Eric— you are simply a spammer from Douche-stang like many others on this board trying to make it sound like is worth something. A community of top talent. A go-to spot for leading employers. Even though I used several sources, Doostang was the most useful one.

There are no third-party recruiters on Doostang, and there are no anonymous posts. Doostang customers always know for certain if their resumes have been viewed by a hiring manager. In three weeks, I received two job offers. Initially I was afraid that seeking a career change would be difficult since I have limited experience and I was seeking a career change in a difficult economic environment. I'm not a premium user, but from the free listings, it really doesn't look like anything that you can't get for free on WallStJobs.

So, after waiting a very long time and working all of the various methodologies for getting a job, I broke down and got a premium Doostang membership. Here are my thoughts:. At the end of the day, I managed to get access to a job I would never have known was available. I accepted the offer yesterday and am very happy that I ended up giving it a try. Is this good for SA positions as well?

Anyone have experience getting an internship through Doostang? I go to a target school with a decent management consulting background non MBB. My impression of Doostang is that the companies on there only reply to the TOP TOP candidates and unless your dick is 12 inches long, you've worked at Goldman and Mckinsey, and you graduated Harvard dual Law and Business top of your class, and scaled Everest I've had even better luck using headhunters, which is sad because you would think they would be even more selective.

I have used Doostang a lot and haven't had a good experience with it. In my opinion, don't waste your time and money. You are better off networking with alumni and doing a very targeted search that fits your background. Recent college senior with a job not related to investment banking, and recent college senior without a job should not waste their money on Doostang. It is not going to work out, given your level of exp and the job market in banking.

Even if you really get selected for interviews, your chance is slim to none when you are competing with a group of ppl with solid banking exp and I don't see why you stand a good chance.

Not to say you are bad, but other ppl are better qualified. Your real opp will arise when you get connected to someone big in the firm. In this case, I'd imagine that you are not going to apply through Doostang. I had 3. Guys, I guess I've noticed a fake job posting on Doostang.

This is a fresh "opportunity". Just check this:. For sure! New York, NY March 07 Our clients call us when they have something pressing on their minds-whether it is a major strategic or operational need or an organizational challenge.

They look to us for honest, objective, thoughtful, and experienced advice. Our clients talk to us when they find themselves under pressure to deliver results. They call us in uncertain times. They talk to us when information is difficult to get and insights are scarce. They call us when they need to make decisions that will have major consequences for their people, their organizations, and the countries in which they operate. They call us when they want a truly global perspective.

It's obvious scam! Just try google it - I did some part of "Specific responsibilities" - and you will find another posting probably the original one , that was listed half a year ago. It also has different name and company! I think most postings on Doostang are fakes if they are not redirecting you to the company official web-site. And this is the reason why we don't receive any responses from the employers. Our applications goes to nowhere Yesterday I purchased a 1-month premium membership.

Now I understand that it was the waste of time and money WTH is this? This is the second account of mine that has disappeared. I saw someone mention that Doostang TOS only permits you to apply for jobs your qualified for, and I admit with my first account I applied for a bunch of jobs that I would be 'on the line' or have to state my case to justify it met their requirements Same thing here.

I even had a "secret" account that I had as a back-up, in which I didn't apply for anything, and that was deleted as well. I emailed a few of their representatives, but all of my emails were ignored.

I am not a fan of doostang and I'm glad my career search is nearly over - I've had great results with monstertrak, indeed. Same happened to me.

I applied for entry level positions though, and my account was deleted Use linked in for networking, it seems alot more people in finance use that then doostang. I've been a subscriber for quite a while now. All of my solid leads have come from there, a lot of competition of course, but they have top-notch jobs. Not happy about the price I'm paying but its worth it.

Just read your entire post lol, let me answer specifically. I've probably applied to at least VC positions at solid shops on both coasts. SAC , have you actually heard back from any of these shops you've applied to?

Captk - While it is not specifically for job postings, it seems that there are tons of contacts to be found on LinkedIn. If you get their "premium" service you can send messages to people that you're not even connected with.

Might be worth a look. I have. A couple of the smaller VCs did interview me. Lost out in the final rounds for one. Can't blame Doostang for that though, I imagine there are hundreds of guys out there right now with more relevant experience and better credentials than me.

It was a long shot to say the least, applying to these firms. Just thought I would check back into this thread way late, I know and mention that I tried Doostang premium, and I really don't think it's worth it. There are some good jobs, but the competition is super-intense for anything interesting.

Companies are also really bad about maintaining their listings, a few times I applied via Doostang and called a recruiter to follow up, who said they hadn't even downloaded the Doostang resumes yet or at all.

Hello guys. This is my post but I've been kinda lurking around the site for some months now I know. Seems kinda creepy. Could somebody please invite me to Doostang?

My email address is [email protected]. Is Doostang Premium worth paying for in order to apply to all those jobs? Has anyone used it with success? If you go to a halfway decent school your careernet and on campus recruiting trump it, and if you don't it isn't going to really help you It's not that exclusive since you can get an invite anywhere they have contests to see who can give away the most invites! I'd love to get some insight from anyone that has some advice. So far, I've put my resume in the resume drops and sent them in to a few firms that I've networked with and haven't heard a thing, so I'm assuming I've been dinging.

I'm getting a bit desperate here!! I recently learned of the professional networking site Doostang. Can someone tell me more about it? If you're a member of this site, can someone invite to this professional network? My email is [email protected]. It's a site all about networking with others in the industry to build contacts and possibly a job. Most of the members have their resumes posted and others will even post job opportunities on the site. May I get an invitation as well? It works.

Where I am now I found thru a recruiter liked the people better. Like the old adage goes, "you only get as much as you put into it. On their profile it will tell them if they are looking for candidates or not. When you find something that interests you just send an email to them and if they reply back just carry on from there. I remember last year when I was looking for jobs and used Doostang Go to doostang, apply, and set up an account.

After you do this, you can search for jobs. When you find one you want to apply to, go to simplyhired. It will be bring you to the doostang link where it says "you can apply for free for this one". Simply submit your resume. Occasionally there are some really good listings, but the competition is insane everyone and their brother is on Doostang, and they're all qualified.

Also, many of the companies that list don't check their applications that often, or at all. Are you talking about a Doostang paid account?
